The machete production process begins with punching. Each machete model has a dedicated mold that includes the entire blade from handle to tip. Factories procure steel strips of various widths, typically 65Mn (similar to SAE1070) or 50Mn (similar to SAE1050), and cut them to length. Using a 3-ton press, the steel is punched into the blade shape, including embossing and riveting holes. This precision ensures U get a blade that’s perfect from the start.
Heat treatment is crucial for enhancing the blade’s hardness and durability. The blades are heated to around 800°C and then quenched, increasing the hardness from approximately HRC20 to HRC55. This process makes the blade extremely hard without making it brittle. Tempering follows, with a second heat treatment that boosts the blade’s toughness and flexibility, ensuring U get a machete that’s both strong and resilient.
Post heat treatment, each batch undergoes rigorous hardness and flexibility testing. The blades are checked for their hardness using a durometer and bent to test their toughness.
